In the 1980s, during a time of reform, six families living on Mayang Street in Guangzhou experience youth and love. Ou Xiao Jian, a rebellious boy, dates Ma Xiao Xiao, a schoolgirl, while Yi Dong Dong, who has had a crush on her since they met, quietly admires her from afar. When Yi Dong Dong returns to his hometown, he falls in love with Ma Xiao Xiao, but seeing her attraction to Ou Xiao Jian, he keeps his feelings hidden and protects her from a distance. Eventually, Ma Xiao Xiao, frustrated with Ou Xiao Jian's reckless behavior, breaks up with him. She becomes a lawyer, while Yi Dong Dong passes the civil service exams.
