Lin Jing Yun, a Chinese-American food critic, travels to Shanghai to reconnect with her heritage. There, she discovers an old diary belonging to Duan Tian Ying, a woman from the 1920s. As Lin reads about Tian Ying’s life, she learns of a complicated love triangle. Tian Ying is torn between two men: the kind Xu Xing Cheng, who she’s beginning to fall for, and the arrogant Luo Fu Sheng, who intrigues her. Meanwhile, Tian Ying’s cousin, Duan Tian Ci, kidnaps her, believing he must protect her, unaware of her own emotional turmoil.
